DEAR STUDENTS, WELCOME !
President of the Université de Savoie
Denis VARASCHIN
With 12,500 students, a rich variety of multidisciplinary education and 19 research laboratories with an international reputation, the University of Savoie is an establishment on a human scale which combines proximity with its territories, founder membership of the University of Grenoble PRES and a wide perspective on Europe and the world.
It offers short courses (university diplomas in technology, university diplomas) and long courses (generalist, specialist or vocational first degrees (licences), masters degrees by research or vocational masters degrees, engineering diplomas and doctorates), in both first level and continuing education, on a sandwich basis or including validation of experience.
On its three university campus sites at Annecy-le-Vieux, Le Bourget-du-Lac and Jacob-Bellecombette, it offers particularly attractive living and studying conditions, at the heart of an exceptional environment, between lakes and mountains.
In support of research and education, the international aspect contributes to the identity, attractiveness, dynamism and general development of our establishment. The focus of the University of Savoie is, on the one hand to develop international projects, joint award qualifications, and programmes delivered in English, and on the other hand, wherever possible, to encourage mobility for students, lecturers and researchers as well as for administrative staff.
Although present in 5 continents, with its 240 bilateral agreements, it has been able to take full advantage of its outstanding location on the borders of Switzerland and Italy to develop strong, special relationships with the higher education establishments of these two countries: Suisse Romande, Turin, Milan, the Aosta Valley … a mixture of regions and university towns.
Our students are certain to find in the University of Savoie a strong dynamic, a personal quality in their supervision, support in the choice and development of their personal plans as well as the required facilities for integration into involvement in working life. Choosing the University of Savoie means an accumulation of every possible option for personal success and fulfilment.
To the students of Europe and the world: welcome to the University of Savoie!
To the students of the University of Savoie: turn your thoughts to the discovery of Europe and the world!
Vice-President of the Université de Savoie
European and international affairs
Eric BRUNAT
Being a student at the University of Savoie means that you have the privilege of studying alongside hundreds of foreign students and of being able to take part in international exchanges throughout Europe and world-wide. The University of Savoie has over 250 active agreements with university establishments in nearly 90 countries.
Grounded on the one hand in affirmative policy, strategic and development decisions, and on the other with the benefit of an exceptional natural geographical location which contributes to the attractiveness of the establishment, International Relations are at the heart of the dynamic of education and research. Having consistently been highly rated for over ten years, the University of Savoie is currently the No. 1 in France for outgoing mobility under the Erasmus scheme as has also been the case in three previous years, in 2009, 2010 and 2011, as a % of its overall numbers. Its rankings are similarly persuasive for the International Student Exchange Programme with the United States (ISEP), the Ontario-Rhône-Alpes (ORA) student exchange programme, and the programme run with the Conférence des Recteurs et des Principaux des Universités du Québec (CREPUQ) [Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities].
For a number of years, with the vital support of the Assemblée des Pays de Savoie, the Rhône-Alpes Region, the State and the European Communities, the University of Savoie has developed a policy of incoming and outgoing mobility in first degrees [licences] and masters degrees with a particular strength in the disciplines of tourism, law, economics and management, languages, the arts and social sciences, but also in the scientific, technical and engineering disciplines where a large number of doctoral theses are completed under joint supervision arrangements. This policy of mobility is supplemented by the establishment of a large number of joint award qualifications. Over the years the university has acquired an acknowledged experience in the organisation of international mobilities and in creating joint award qualifications. The international aspect of the University of Savoie also has a particular reputation in educational fields such as mathematics, physics, mecatronics, solar science and subjects associated with mountains. These disciplines are based on the establishment’s international expertise and experience and on the presence of a dense manufacturing infrastructure (mecatronics), of the Instititut National de l'Energie Solaire [National Institute of Solar Energy] at the Le Bourget-du-Lac site, and given the proximity of CERN in Geneva and the ‘mountain’ environment of the university. All these disciplines offer an international perspective for students, enhancing prospects of professional success and integration into the job market. The University, which is particularly active and present in Europe, and in its special cross-border relations with Switzerland and Italy, especially in the context of European projects such as INTERREG, is also increasingly extending its exchange relations with Japan, Canada and the United States, the emergent countries, China, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) – including Russia and the countries of the Mediterranean Basin.
The University of Savoie is an establishment on a human scale and also offers accommodation facilities, often in collaboration with local bodies, as well as study and research conditions that contribute to the success and enjoyment of study and research.
Come to the University of Savoie and discover the world !
